8D Problem Solving  (8D)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Organizations can achieve process improvement when the employees are empowered to continuously analyze data to solve problems.

An effective problem solving process leads employees to make informed decision on solution(s) required to correct the causes and improve the process.

This course will introduce participants to a structured problem solving methodology best practices.


The 8D Problem Solving process has become the benchmark methodology for root cause analysis and problem solving activities through the following:

  • Identify and implement immediate containment actions to protect the customer.
  • Identify and verify the true root cause, escape point and systemic weakness that led to the problem
  • Identify, verify and remove the root cause with a permanent corrective action to prevent the recurrence of the same problem in the future
  1. Review and update existing systems, practices, procedures, documents to prevent potential problems on other product or similar processes from happening


The 8D requires an organization and its suppliers to demonstrate their capability in applying the structured problem solving process along with the use of appropriate quality tools at various steps of the process. Through the effective implementation of 8D, an organization stands to benefit from improved quality capability and reductions in cost of poor quality.


OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Support participants to acquire knowledge to enable them to implement the 8D process
  • Provide experiential and practical hands-on training using relevant examples when establishing root          cause and permanent solutions in line with 8D requirements
  • Enable participants to select and use the appropriate tools at specific 8D step aimed at identifying          the root cause and preventing re-occurence of the same problem
  • Identify necessary characteristics and facilitation skills required based on the team member’s specific role i.e. as a Sponsor/Champion, Team Leader or Team Member to ensure an effective problem solving            process
  • Apply the 8D as a robust tool to support the Quality Management System in continually improving           products and processes to meet the expectations of the customer and other interested parties
  • Link the use of supplementary tools such as FMEA, APQP, PPAP, SPC and MSA to the 8D process.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is recommended for all personnel in an organization that needs to develop competence in problem solving process based on 8D methodology.
