IATF 16949:2016 Internal Auditor


ISO/TS 16949:2009 is now known as IATF 16949:2016 (formerly ISO/TS 16949:2009).

This training will focus on equipping internal auditors on how to audit IATF 16949 new/additional requirements, clarification on modified and carry-over requirements when conducting a first party and second party audit.

Through individual participation and group exercises, participants will apply and audit the requirements of IATF 16949:2016 using auditing best practices/techniques.

The auditing guidelines of ISO 19011 including the auditing process and methodologies, e. g., planning and conducting an audit, writing nonconformity statements, preparing an audit summary and report, and verifying corrective actions and their application in the automotive process approach will be covered.

A final examination is included at the end of the course.

A special emphasis will be on Section 7.2.3 (Internal auditor competency) and Section 7.2.4 (Second-party auditor competency) where the standard features greatly-enhanced requirements with regards to the competency of internal auditor.


At the end of this training, delegates will be able to conduct a robust QMS audit on key changes within IATF 16949 that include new/additional requirements, clarification on modified and carry-over requirements. Delegates will be able to:

  • Link requirements of IATF 16949 to ISO 9001:2015 High Level Structure (HLS)
  • Manage and perform Internal audit as required by IATF 16949 and guided by ISO 19011
    • Emphasis on Section 7.2.3: Internal auditor competency & Section 7.2.4: Second-party auditor competency
  • Use the PDCA/process approach in internal audit
    • Audit adequacy of actions taken to prevent or mitigate risks identified in risk register or equivalent document
    • Audit adequacy of actions taken on opportunities identified in risk register or equivalent document
  • Perform audit using benchmark practices/industry accepted practices when performing IATF 16949 audits
    • Review competency of internal auditors and second-party auditors in meeting customer-specific requirements
    • Review proficiency in AIAG Core Tools (APQP, FMEA, SPC, MSA and PPAP) for internal auditors.
  • Appreciate the importance of the internal audit process in ensuring quality management for the organization and its customers.
